VisionLooking after horses is not a job it’s a way of life. It’s always been a way of life for racehorse trainer Ron Harris. Born the son of hunt master Tony and Rita, Ron literally learned how to ride before he could walk – his toys were horses. Father Tony was a hard taskmaster and Ron was exposed to the huge commitment of looking after horses as soon as he was big enough to wear wellies. He always had a goal. He was going to train racehorses. There is no fast track to learning the job properly and Ron set out on the long journey eager to learn. He worked in racing stables, riding as a jockey on the flat and over the sticks gaining knowledge and experience from every opportunity presented to him. Ron’s enthusiasm knew no boundaries. His success as a business man at last made the dream possible. Ridge House Stables, the venue, a purpose built state of the art set up near Chepstow. Immediate success a dream? No a reality. His first season, 25 winners, his second 29 and third 36. The rest is history in the making |
