June 2010

Sunday 27th June 2010 proved to be a fantastic day for Ridge House Stables and Ron Harris.  Glamorous Spirit, who has long been rated by Ron for her pace won the Dubai Duty Free Sapphire Stakes (Group 3) 5f at Curragh, ridden by Kieren Fallon and owned by Mr Robert Bailey.  She will now look to Chester. Read the Racing Post review.

Spring 2010

We currently have 15 two year olds, which is a major step for the yard. This usually improves older horses and we would like to think that at least 50% could be very early. The first two runners are at Fos Llas on Tuesday 5th April.

Avongate arrived March 10th 2010 from Mr John Deer of Oakgrove stud. He is in great order, having been cut through the winter. We hope he will run mid April. We are delighted to be involved with Oakgrove stud and we look forward to increasing our involvement in the future.

Abraham Lincoln is an Ex Coolmore horse, he is now starting to do some serious work and it will not be too long before we will have him run for the first time for us.

August 2009

Italian Tom

Italian Tom was purchased August 2009 by Ron Harris.  Since then he has won 2 races. (check the stats)

Judge 'N Jury wins the Hong Kong Sprint - Ascot

Judge 'N Jury   recently won the Hong Kong Sprint at Ascot.  This is the 2nd year running that Ron Harris has won this race, which is no mean feat. Judge n Jury has had 8 wins and bought home earnings just over £121,000. Trained by Mr Ron Harris since 2007, having arrived at Ridge House as a maiden, having never won a race before.

Toms Laughter wins The Hong Kong Sprint - Ascot

Toms Laughter, owned and breed by Debbie Hughes won the Cisco Hong King Sprint at Ascot. At 50-1 the odds were against him, but it wasn’t a surprise for Ron, who always felt the horse had a big race in him.  Ridden by claiming jockey Kevin Ghunowa a great day was enjoyed by all. The £40,000 winnings is certainly a bonus for a horse who a couple of years ago didn’t receive much interest at the sales and was withdrawn and bought back home by Debbie to be trained by Ron Harris.

28 April 2008
Our grand veteran Trinculo gave amateur jockey Rhys Flint his first winner at Wolverhampton on Saturday.  The old fellow has now taken his career earnings to over 1/2 million pounds.   Rhys gave Trinculo a lovely front running ride, as he likes to be in control, to bring home the spoils on Saturday for the yard.

It has been a good few days for the yard, Hart of Gold who appears to have been rejuvinated since his trip to the White Turf earlier this year, got his nose in front at Catterick last Wednesday.  Allowed to bowl along under apprentice David Probert, he remained widish on the track until well into the home straight and battled home well when strongly tackled.

Misaro another old characteur at Ridge House ventured to Great Leighs in Essex, to the newly opened all weather track and finished a close second.  He missed a beat at the start, which mayhave cost him the race and was trapped four or five horse widths wide on the turn, but he stayed on really well up the middle to swamp those that forced the pace.

18 April 2008

Judge n Jury managed to get his head infront at Warwick on Tuesday in a competitive sprint handicap. This was his first run on turf for us, so he was relatively unproven but his sire is Pivotal and his progeny tend to like a bit of cut in the ground, so the softer conditions seemed to be to his liking.

We have potentially a busy beginning to next week, with seven entries at Bath on Monday.  Last year the yard was awarded the leading trainer at the South West track and hopefully we can do the same again this year.

31 March 2008

Jockey Adam Kirkby and Bahamrama notched another win for the stable under the floodlights at Wolverhampton last Saturday night.  under a positive ride the pair surged clear of the field in the home straight to win by 2 1/4 lengths.

To watch Bahamarama's win click the At the Races Logo.  You will have to register with the website to watch but it is free to do so.

Personify also finshed third that evening, again partnered by Adam Kirkby.

Ridge House Stables has a busy week ahead with multiple entires everyday on the turf and all weather surfaces.

24 March 2008

On a cold, windy day last Saturday, Toms Laughter made it three wins in a row at Kempton Park.

In a open looking handicap, Toms win was more readily than the narrow margin suggests, who carried top weight. He had no trouble grabbing a handy position from his draw on the wide outside and took it up inside the final furlong. He has gone from strength to strength since he has arrived with us and was 11lb higher here than when initiating his hat-trick.

He seems to be just as effective at 5f as 6f, and, having won over 6f on soft ground for his former trainer last year, he is clearly effective on turf, too.

With the turf season under way from Saturday we have four runners at Warwick.  The flat season comes around so quickly and we are looking forward to another hopefully successful season this year.

15 March 2008

The inmates at Ridgehouse Stables have been in great form of late with a tally of three wins and a second during the last week.

Toms Laughter who won last time out at Wolverhampton did very well to get past the leader, who set a blistering pace, to win this sprint race at Kemton on Saturday night.

Marko Jadeo beat home is stable mate Night Prospector earlier in the day at Lingfield, he responded under his riders urgings, Kevin Ghunowa to get up near the line.  Half a length behind him was his stable buddy Night Prospector, who is a a loyal campaigner of the stable.

Decider has also been in great form of late after coming back from a break.  He won in tremendous fashion at Southwell last Tuesday by three and a half lengths and he seems to be really enjoying his racing.

To watch Decider's win, please click on the At The Races icon. You will need to be registered to watch the race, but it is free to do so.

29 February 2008

Toms Laughter and Decider both bought home the spoils this week for the stable. Kevin Ghunowa a handy 5lb claiming jockey, rode Toms Laughter at Wolverhampton last Saturday night to victory in the Vorspring Durch Technik Handicap. He struggled to get home over seven furlongs last time out and the drop in trip to six furlongs seemed to suit and he will now remain running over a sprint distance.

Decider also won at Wolverhampton with Kevin aboard on Wednesday afternoon, it was his only second run for the yard after he finished in second place at Kempton last week and before that had not run since August.  He seems to be enjoying his racing and we hope there is some further improvement in him.

19 February 2008

Daring Affair made her final assalt on the ice and snow in St Moritz on Suday on the finale of the White Turf Racing Festival.  She put in a very game front running performance, proving she really has adapted to the climate and thriving in the cooler conditions.

She ran very bravely only to be mugged on the line having to settle for 2nd place.

Hart of Gold also put in a solid performance on the snow, leading for most of the race he finished in 4th place.  You can see him pictured here, racing on the snow, on the outside in the red and gold colours of the YesNoWaitSorries.

In all the horses seemed to really flourish in the altitude and they currently look magnificent and will be making the journey back to England soon, where hopefully they can continue their improving form!

12 February 2008

It has been a busy and successful week for Ridgehouse Stables, with a winner, three seconds and fourth tallying up for the stable.

Judge N Jury scored his first win for the yard at Lingfield on Saturday.  Making the running he won won very impressively, with jockey Kevin Ghunowa not having to move a muscle. The plan is that he will run one more time on the all weather before switching to the turf this year.

Bahamarama, Jal Music and Winged Farasi ran promisingly during the past week, all all just being pipped at the post into second place, at Southwell and Wolverhampton racecourses.

Our St Moritz trio, Hart of Gold, Daring Affair and Arturius are all very well in the Alpine resort and seem to have aclimatised to the cool conditions.  It has been over two weeks since their arrival now and they have been exercising daily on the frozen lake with packed powder on top and appear to be more happy galloping, with their footing on the snowy surface.  All three will be taking their place in the finale of the White Turf this Sunday.

4 February 2008

Hart of Gold, Daring Affair and Aturius left a promising hoof print in the White Turf at the glamorous racing festival in St Moritz on Sunday.

It was the first time that the trio experienced racing on ice and a large support team made the journey to Switzerland to cheer them home in the cool conditions.  The YesNoWaitSorries own Daring Affair and Hart of Gold and during the Friday and Saturday before racing a large part of the syndicate also played in a unique cricket-on-ice tournament as the Cheltenham Cavaliers Cricketers, with the team consisiting of eight time Champion Jockey Peter Scudamore, Ex-England Cricketer Mike Smith and The YesNoWaitSorries coordinator  Chris Coley.

Hart of Gold was the first to take centre stage on the snow in the Grand Prix Handels & Gewerbeverein St Moritz  over 1100m and ran on promisingly  to finish in 6th place from 10 runners.  Daring Affair, was next to step up to the challenge and plugged on gamely to finish in 4th place in the Grand Prix American Airline over 1600m.  This was no mean feat as it this her first experience in the snowy conditions and she finished well in the frame staying on in the later stages.

After leading the field for a circuit during the final flat race Arturius seemed to loose confidence galloping on the snow. Although, he should improve for the expeirience and all three will now remain in St Moritz for another two weeks to take part in the White Turf flat races on the final Sunday (17 February) .

28 January 2008
In the earlly hours of this morning Aturius, Daring Affair and Hart of Gold left Ridgehouse Stables for cooler climates in the Swiss Alps.  This Sunday they will be running on the White Turf  in St Moritz.  We packed the trio off with extra blankets and bandages to make sure they kept warm on their journey and during their stay at the glamorous ski resort.

You can watch a video and find out more about the White Turf by clicking on the You Tube Icon.

Daring Affair and Hart of Gold, are owned by the YesNoWaitSorries Syndicate who also make up the Gloucestershire Gipsies Cricketers.  This group  of racing  /  cricketing enthusiasts will also be playing in the Cricket on Ice Tournament in St Moritz the Friday and Saturday before the White Turf Racing on Sunday.

Here's to success at Cricketing and Horseracing with Altitude this weekend!

22 January 2008

The Team at Ridge House Stables are aiming for cool runnings at the White Turf Racing Festival in St Moritz in Switzerland at the beginning February.

Three our our inmates will be making the trip to cooler climates to race on ice at the glamorous racing festival held in the Swiss resort on a frozen lake.

The picture-postcard Swiss resort of St Moritz is famed most for the beauty of its ski slopes and the adrenalin rush of the Cresta Run as well as the glamorous horseracing spectacle on the White Turf, which takes place on a frozen lake set in the Engadine Mountains on the first three Sunday’s of February. The racing entertainment includes racing on the flat, trotting races and Skikjoring, where skiers are pulled by rider less thoroughbreds.

We will be taking three horses to the Swiss resort, to contest in the flat races on the first day of the meeting on Sunday 3 February 2008.  Arturius owned by Nial O'Farrell, Daring Affair and Hart of Gold both who are owned by the Yes No Wait Sorries Racing Partnership.

Although racing on ice is a first for our stable everyone involved is very much looking forward to the adventure.  Hart of Gold and Daring Affair, the latter being a recent purchase, have been campaigning on the all weather, which should help them prepare for the kick back on the ice.   Arturuius has recently joined the stable from Ireland where he didn’t seem to take to hurdling, although he has had good form on the past on the all weather and we are hoping he will handle the conditions in St Moritz.

18 December 2007

Ambroise Princess will see if she can improve from her third place last  week at Southwell this Wednesday at Kempton Park. Liam Keniry is booked to ride her again, as he seems to have struck a cord with the filly and steered her to a close third place at Southwell last week.

Strabinios King is a very new recruit from the yard, as he arrived with us just at the beginning of this month when we claimed him at Wolverhampton.  He is also declared to run at Kempton this Wednesday and Chris Catlin is booked to ride.

There is plenty of action leading up the Christmas with 18 horses entered into races between now and 22 December - there's no rest for the wicked!

12 December 2007

Southwell racecourse opened its gates for the first time since it was hit so terribly by the horrendous flooding during the summer yesterday and Trincolo returned home with a further winner for the yard taking our yearly tally to 51. At 10 years this fellow seems to be improving with age relishing what appear to be his optimum distance, between 6-7 furlongs.

Click here to watch a video of Trinculo's win at Southwell.

Ron will be making the trip back to Southwell this Friday where he will saddle two year olds Ambroise Princess and Spic n Span at the midlands track, both will be ridden by Liam Keniry.

3 December 2007

The yard has a busy evening in store at Kempton this Wednesday, where Winged Farasi, Ambrose Princess, Red Current, Sir Douglas and Ugenius will all take their place under the floodlights on Wednesday, bar any mishaps.

28 November 2007

We have declared the below horses in the following race this Friday:
Dot's Delight 12.40 Lingfield Park - The Croydon Advertiser Selling Stakes

Back in the Red 3.20 Lingfield Park The Caravan Club Centenary Handicap Stakes

25 November 2007

It has been a fruitful few days for Ridge House Stables as on Thursday Back in the RedTen Pole Tudor

Ten Pole Tudor's victory provided the stable with its 50th winner of the year, making it our most successful season to date and reaching Ron's target of a half a century in one season.  To watch Ten Pole Tudor  grasp  victory click here.

returned to winning form under John Egan at Wolverhampton and continued his winning streak when stepping in class and finishing in front back at the midlands track on Saturday night ridden by Chris Catlin.12 November 2007

Two year old Ten Pole Tudor provided Ridge House Stables with its 48th winner this year at Wolverhampton earlier today.  Dot's Delight also ran promisingly finishing fourth in her first outing for the stable.  Dot is a new recruit into the yard from the horses in training sale.

With Ron's two year olds and new purchases running well it worth noting that there are shares available in a new racing partnership with Ron Harris Racing in a precocious Monsieur Bond yearling filly bought by Ron at the yearling sales, who is showing plenty of promise and should be ready to run early next season if all goes to plan.  To find out more about this racing partnership and the horse please visit the Horses for Sale section.

5 November 2007

Country and Lifestyle magazine West Country Life ran an interesting feature about Ron and the team at Ridge House Stables over the weekend.  To read this article please click here.

As mentioned earlier in the review over the past few weeks Ron has been busy at the bloodstock sales buying promising yearlings and horses in training, some of which can be viewed on the Horses for Sale page.   If you are interested in a particular horse or have a specific enquiry about ownership or syndication please get in touch via the contact us

page.1 November 2007

As well as a busy week at the races for the stable, with Montana Sky finishing second at Kempton on the all weather yesterday, Ron was at Tattersalls horses in Training sales at racings HQ - Newmarket.

The horses in training sale is where horses that are currently in training can be purchased at public auction.  Ridge House will welcome seven new recruits into the yard purchased from the sales, as Ron was busy filling his shopping basket.  Full details of these horses will soon be posted on the website and available to purchase.

25 October 2007

Ridgehouse Stables season ended on high at the final flat meeting of the season at Bath yesterday, when we were crowned the leading stable with the most winners for the year at the west country racecourse, closley beating trainers Mick Channon and Andrew Balding into the number one spot.

Our first prize was £1,000 worth of Marks and Spencer vouchers, so we will be very well stocked this Christmas and this generous prize will certainly help us celebrate the successful season!

With just a few remaining runners on the turf this season for the stable, including Golden Dixie this weekend at Doncaster, our focus is moving onto all weather racing.  Trinculo

who ran yesterday, found the five furlong pace a bit sharp as he matures in his years and we now plan to step him up in distance and have a crack on the all weather this term. 22 October 2007

Although the flat season is drawing to a close, the team have still been extremely busy at the bloodstock sales.  Last week we bought home seven promising yearlings from the Tattersalls Yearling Sales. All are by prolific stallions, including Orpen and Fraam and first season sire Monsiuer Bond, who were well respected racehorses.

Tattersalls and Doncaster Bloodstock Sales are the main two auctioneers in the UK and from early October through to November both venues hold regular sales.  Yearlings (unraced horses under a year old), horses in training and horses out of training (generally breeding stock) can be purchased from these sales.

We will also be saying Aurevoir next week to improvers Back in the Red, Beau Sancy, Coup D'Etat, Drawback, Bahamarama and Red Current as they are going to the horses in training sales.

Providing the going does not turn too slow Golden Dixie will probably have his final run of the season at Doncaster this weekend, where hopefully 2006 Champion Jockey Ryan Moore will ride.  Then Dixie will enjoy a well earned break over the winter months, after which, hopefully he will head for the sunny shores of Dubai to embark on a campaign at the Spring Carnival in February next year.

12 October 2007

Linda' s Collin (pictured in the header at the top of the page) returned to winning form under the floodlights at Kempton last night. Under amateur jockey Kevin Ghunowa, who also rode Spinning Ridge for us to win earlier in the week, Linda's ran on gamely to win by 1/2 a length.

Click to enlarge the picture of Linda's Colin at Chepstow earlier this year.

Golden Dixie is off to York tomorrow to contest in a Class 2 Handicap, fingers crossed he can finish his turf season with a speedy performance!

9 October 2007

Spinning Ridge broke his maiden by two and a half lengths at Wolverhampton yesterday under  Kevin Gunowhoa!

5 October 2007

It was a beautiful morning at Ridge House today, with all the horses looking really well in their coats.  In particular two-year old, Ten Pole Tudor, his coat really glistened in the morning light as he worked very promisingly this morning. Over the last couple of months he has developed further and looks a stronger horse. All being well he is off to Folkestone next week and after finishing second on his last two outings we hope he can get his nose in front for lucky and loyal owner Jan Adams.

Golden Dixie is being aimed at York for a sprint race next weekend, and he appears in great order - like a fine wine he is improving with age!  We generally have to work him on his own at home as he is quite a handful and can boil over when ridden in the string.  He just seems to cope better doing his own thing, so we tend to let him have his way when it comes to the hard graft, which seems to keep him happy!

With soft conditions prominent in the early part of this turf season it was a bit of a slow start for the stable, so there are several inmates at Ridge House that we are hopeful will have a exciting campaign on the all weather this term, including Ten Pole Tudor, The Gaikwar and last weeks winner Hello Roberto.

We have three pronged attack at Wolverhampton this Saturday night, with Bahamarama, Coup D' Etat and Linda's Colin all performing at the midlands track.

3 October 2007

Another busy day at the office - with four runners at Salisbury today.

My old friend The Gaikwar is running in the apprentice handicap, with age this fellow tends to live by his own rules and when he is feeling on song he certainly has the ability to put in a solid performance. Drawback should handle the slower conditions today, he is a solid campaigner and has won four times for the yard this year on going ranging from good to firm to good to soft.

Champion jockey Ryan Moore is re-united with Don Pele after the pair struck up a winning relationship at Goodwood last week, the slower going today should not bother him as his win was on similar ground and it would be great result for the yard if he could make it back to back wins.

Stamford Blue takes on Don Pele in the same race, he seems to have a love affair with Salisbury.  He has won twice at the course this season, once on good to soft going, we have up and coming apprentice Luke Morris on board who is claiming 5lb off his back today.

1 October 2007

After a quiet weekend, October kicked off with six runners for Ridge House Stables at Bath and Brighton today.

A loyal campaigner for the yard; Hello Roberto blazed the trail in her race and held on well to win at a damp Bath racecourse today. She has been a real consistent performer for her connections this season just not quite managing to get her nose in front, so this success is very deserving for her owner Peter Price as well as the team and not forgetting Roberto herself!

This takes our tally to a grand 45 winners from 45 horses in training at Ridge House Stables this season!

click on the icon and view a video of Hello Roberto's win at Bath.

Red Current who won her two previous starts, wasn't to keen on the slower going at Brighton today but ran bravely nevertheless and finished in third place. Coup D' Etat traveled nicely and looked like he was going to take all the beating in the final furlong, but he may have gone a bit before the bell and couldn't quite hold on and we had to settle for a solid run into third place.

28 September 2007

Ridge House has had busy and successful week with Don Pele under Ryan MooreRed Current making it back to back wins when staying on bravely up the hill at Pontefract on Thursday.  winning at Goodwood and

I am planning for Red Current to make another appearance at Brighton next week as she will run without a penalty.  The last few outings this filly seems to really have come into herself and she's enjoying her racing and looks a picture at the moment.

Red Current and the team at the races. Click image to enlarge.

We were thrilled with Don Pele's win this week and we hope we have got to the bottom of him, we now bandage him as he has a tendency to knock joints, which has appeared to help him. He has been tapping at the door for sometime now and hopefully this win should boost his confidence.

It's a quiet weekend (for a change!) racing wise at Ridge House Stables, with no declarations, but its all go on Monday with seven potential runners at Brighton and Bath.
